Captain America: Civil War comes to Movie theaters in the United States May 6, and returning to the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) is none other than Natasha Romanoff, Black Widow, portrayed by Scarlett Johansson.
Scarlett Johansson began playing the character of Black Widow in Iron Man 2, where she began as an assistant to Tony Stark named Natalie Rushman. It was later revealed that she was an undercover S.H.I.E.L.D. agent working for Nick Fury.
Black Widow returned to the MCU in the first team-up event movie, the Avengers, where she was a crucial part of the team. She was taken abruptly out of an undercover mission and sent to wrangle Bruce Banner and also interrogated and was able to outsmart Loki while he was under S.H.I.E.L.D. captivity.
Black Widow would once again appear in the MCU, this time as a supporting character to Captain America in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. She partnered with Steve Rogers on S.H.I.E.L.D. missions, and they also went on the run together as they unfolded a major conspiracy involving their S.H.I.EL.D. superiors and the mysterious Winter Soldier.
Black Widow once again teamed up with the Avengers in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Her character development this time around was a bit controversial in the Fan community as some were not happy with her “sudden” romantic involvement with Bruce Banner. The relationship was, however, cut short as the Hulk absconded with a Quinjet and is missing in action.
Black Widow once again shares the screen with her fellow Avengers, although this time they are divided into opposing factions for and against Government supervision of their heroic endeavors. Going into the movie it appears as though Black Widow is on Team Iron Man, but I have a feeling she might defect to Team Cap because of her history with him. I might be wrong, but let’s see!
